My husband and I ordered takeout we ordered catfish dinner and catfish sandwich. My fish wasn’t cooked all the way so we returned the whole order for a replacement. The lady that was cooking our fish was cutting the fish I didn’t realize how thin she was slicing it up like paper thin. It was almost closing time, My order was ready I left out. When we got home ready to eat our dinner what a big disappointment. My husband fish sandwich had some small little hard fish he didn’t eat. My catfish dinner was even more disgusting I didn’t eat as well. We had catfish skins what a waste of time and money why eat here with this type food quality and services.
A friend recommended this place. We were looking forward to a good fresh seafood meal on the company dime today. Alas, it was not to be.
Pretty disappointing all around. Service was fast. No one was rude but no one was personable either. Never saw anyone clean a table and had to clean one ourselves. The food was very under whelming. My soft shell crab sandwich was ok, it's hard to screw up crab, but it was overcooked. My wife's platter was terrible. The alligator bites, the flounder and the scallops were like rubber. The coleslaw tasted like it had turned. She said the shrimp tasted metallic.
The best part of our meal was the fries on her plate and the soup i ordered, which was honestly fantastic.
I'll not be returning. I'm still looking for a truly great seafood restaurant on the coast of NC.
Seriously. Mayflower near me is very mid and blows this place out of the water for half the price.
While on a road trip along the North Carolina coastline we needed some lunch. I did a quick search up ahead and found Frog Island Seafood. The reviews were good so we added the stop. The parking was full at 2PM which is a great sign. The seafood counter was full of a variety of fish and seafood. The menu was simple and unfussy. We ordered crab cake sandwiches and the she crab soup. It was all I could do to not also order a pound of steamed shrimp because it looked so good. The crab cake sandwiches were the best I had all week, large, tasting of crab, satisfying. The she crab soup (so called because of the crab roe) included pieces of crab you can see and was very tasty. I wished I had ordered the larger size. All food was served quickly. Prices were very reasonable for the high quality. I would definitely stop here again and I recommend you stop by if in the area.
Delicious and fresh seafood. My husband and I purchased the 2 lunch specials..so good. We will return...
This local restaurant was recommended by one of the staff at the Virginia border welcome center. She said that the seafood is amazing. iI is not fine dining but it is the best fried fish in town”… and it was. When you enter you will go to the cash register, get a menu, order what you want. Then go choose a table to sit. They will give you a vibrating thing to let u know your food is ready for pick up. It was delicious! I felt I was in the country of the Deep South. I live that southern accent y’all!
A local friend recommended this place to us during our two week stay at OBX and surrounding areas. So good we ate it twice. No frills, no waterfront dining. Just good seafood cooked by very nice genuine people. Order at the counter and wait for the food to be ready at the window. I ate the seafood platter twice now and it hasn't disappointed yet. 2 large pieces of fish, 3 scallops, 3 shrimp, 3 fried oysters, 2 sides, and the best crabcake around. Lots of crabmeat, not fillers.
Good vibe, shrimp were very nice, I liked the alligator, I had never had it before. Bar was loud but everyone was friendly. Only things to note were A. table was dirty when we sat down and B. they put a LOT of mayo and onions on stuff, there isn't really any ingredients list either. that's just a personal preference though. overall it was pretty good
This place was recommended by our tour guide from Corolla, in the Outer Banks as a good simple place for great fresh seafood. We both ordered the fried oysters plate for 18.00 and came with 2 plentiful sides of tasty canned green beans and slaw. The oysters were on the smaller size but fried perfectly and tasty.
You order at the counter_ they hand you a buzzer and you go find a seat, when the food is ready- about less than 5-10 minutes, you go back to the takeout window and pick up your order. Simple and efficient and self serve your fountain drinks.
